Our Ministry

OurMinistrySlide_1140x445px

September 11, 2001 completely altered the way we do our mission. While our mission to be Good Samaritans for seafarers has not changed from the beginning, the way we work out that mission is very different. Click here to read more about how our ministry to seafarers has changed in recent years.

We offer Human Services, work for Fair Treatment, and advocate for the Maritime Community

Human Services | Fair Treatment | Community

By serving merchant seamen of all ethnic and religious backgrounds, Seamen’s Church Institute also serves the entire port community – as a troubleshooting “advance team” and as an ambassador of goodwill for the Delaware Valley.

For every cargo ship that arrives here, SCI is there at the terminal, waiting to greet visitors to our Delaware Valley home. We strive to treat them as all guests should be treated, with kindness and in the spirit of God’s grace.

Click the links below to learn how Seamen’s Church Institute makes a real difference – in individuals’ lives, and in the local economy.

US Homeland Security requirements have become very strict since September 11, 2001, which we completely understand, but seafarers are suffering because their visas expire 29 days after their first entry into the United States, and it is inconvenient if not impossible to renew them. We continue to work with other seafarer service organizations to look for ways to improve this situation for those we serve. ... See MoreSee Less
